Organizations For All of Us

Deepening Equity in Organizations

Power dynamics related to race, gender, age, dis/ability, and other identities are at play in all of our organizations; in organizations with social justice values, they tend to play out in ways that are below the surface, and may not be apparent to people who aren’t directly affected by them. Many organizations set the intention to build racial justice, gender justice, accessibility, and equity into their work together, but don’t have a shared understanding of what that means or looks like in practice.

This training describes some of the structures, cultures, and behaviors that tend to reinforce inequity in organizations, and what we can build instead. We’ll examine some of the patterned ways that systems of oppression tend to play out in most organizations, and how to intervene. And we’ll delve into some of the practices that organizations can put into place to push back on the status quo and create real equity in practice.
