“Can I Give You Some Feedback?”
Skillful Practices for Giving and Receiving Feedback in Organizations
Constructive feedback is one of the most challenging—and the most necessary—practices for most organizations. Doing it well is a superpower that supports growth, collaboration, and makes all of our work together stronger. But often, groups don’t have shared practices or agreements for feedback, and individuals are left to navigate it on their own, based on assumptions and experiences that may differ widely. How we give and receive feedback is influenced by a wide variety of factors, including the ways we are raised and socialized, our cultures and identities, our power and security within the organization, and our individual relationships.
This training shares some simple but powerful practices for groups seeking to build culture and habits for productive feedback. We’ll talk about the qualities that make for good feedback, what it takes to receive feedback well (in whatever form it arrives), and what organizations can do to create cultures and containers for healthy feedback.
