Confronting Christian Supremacy
A Training for Progressive Organizations
We are currently experiencing the powerful rise of Christian nationalism, impacting all of our movements for social justice: attacks on trans people, immigrants, reproductive rights, the Palestine solidarity movement, and progressive movement infrastructure. These attacks—and the movements behind them—are growing in strength and visibility via the MAGA right, but they aren’t new; they have been building for years, enabled by the Christian supremacy built into the foundation of the United States since the colonization of this land. In order to understand our current conditions—and defend against attacks on our movements—we need to understand how we got here, and what we are facing
This training is an introduction to talking about Christian supremacy and Christian nationalism as systems and mechanisms of oppression. We will examine how Christian supremacy is connected to other forms of systemic inequity. We will break down concepts and ideologies and how they impact your work, in order to understand how these often-obscured forces pose a threat—and how we and our movements (from all of our identities and experiences in relation to Christianity) can fight them.
