The Anatomy of Disagreement
Navigating Conflict in Organizations
Most organizations struggle to manage conflict when it arises, either defaulting to passive and conflict-avoidant habits or erupting into blowouts that leave people—and often those around them—simmering and resentful. We don’t want to avoid conflict, and we also don’t want to address it in aggressive or thoughtless ways that can cause harm. When we get good at handling conflict in principled ways—based on shared organizational values—we can build trust, work together better, and access our best collective thinking. But most organizations lack the containers, norms, structures, practices, and habits that support healthy conflict.
This training will help individuals and organizations skill up communication and disagreement practices that allow groups to navigate conflict smoothly. We’ll explore the ways that our personal conflict behaviors are shaped by and interplay with systemic oppression, lived experiences, and power dynamics in groups, talk about specific examples and scenarios that can be particularly challenging to manage. We'll learn tools that can help groups establish structures, cultures, and behaviors to navigate conflict well.
“I learned so much from the way Roan held space for each intervention and question about conflict that was dropped in the chat or spoken. Truly expert!”
